\nAims and scope\nThe EMAS Regional Workshops are biennial events designed
to provide postgraduate-level and research workers in materials science\,
material engineering and related subjects\, with basic knowledge of the c
apabilities and limitations of electron probe X-ray microanalysis.  The wo
rkshops are organized as low budget meetings with lectures on practical an
d theoretical aspects of EPMA given by internationally recognized experts.
The format and content of the meetings are tailored to the needs of the
practical microanalyst routinely dealing with problems of instrumental pro
 cedures\, specimen preparation\, data collection and quantification\, as w
ell as those of research workers keen to obtain a deeper understanding of
the physics underlying X-ray production\, measurement and analysis.\nPast
EMAS Regional Workshops were held in Finland (1994)\, Hungary (1996)\, Spa
in (1998)\, the Czech Republic (2000)\, Poland (2002)\, Slovenia (2004)\,
Germany (2006)\, Italy (2008)\, the Netherlands (2010)\, Italy (2012)\, an
d Austria (2014).\nThe core topics of the 12th EMAS Regional Workshop are:
\n\nElectron beam - specimen interactions\nX-ray spectroscopy (WDS and EDS
 )\nLight element analysis\nQuantitative electron probe microanalysis\nAnal
 ysis under low-vacuum conditions\nSample preparation\nElectron backscatter
diffraction (EBSD)\n\nA special session entitled “Analysis of non-conduct
ing materials” will be organized including two technical sessions dedicate
d to this subject.  Topics covered in these two sessions will include:Sess
ion on non-conventional methods:\n\nAnalysis of coatings\nAnalysis in the
VP-SEM\nCombination of analytical techniques for geological materials anal
 ysis\nComparison of µ-XRF and EDS\nLow-voltage analysis\n\nSession on non-
conventional materials:\n\nin situ experiments in the VP-SEM\nSample stabi
lity in the VP-SEM\nAnalysis of gunshot residues\nAnalysis of transuranium
  elements\nAnalysis of multi-phase materials\nInstrument development\n\nto
p\n \nScientific programme\nThe programme will consist of invited lectures
delivered by renowned experts\, and two poster sessions.  Three round-tab
le discussions will also be held during the workshop.  The invited lecture
s and poster abstracts will be published in the Workshop Book of Tutorials
and Abstracts.  The official language of the workshop will be English.\nF
or the complete scientific programme please download the announcement of t
he workshop.\ntop\n \nPoster presentations\nAll participants to the worksh
op are invited to make a poster presentation. Abstracts of poster contribu
tions to be presented during the workshop should fit one A4 page\; please
use the provided Word-template. Detailed guidelines are mentioned on the t
emplate.\nThe abstract\, has to be submitted before 15 February 2016. Auth
ors will be notified of the acceptance of their poster by 1 March 2016.\nL
ater arriving abstracts can be submitted until 1 April 2016.  Notification
of acceptance will be done as soon as possible after receipt.\ntop\n \nPr
oceedings\nAuthors of contributions related to the topic of the workshop’s
special session are invited to submit a manuscript for publication in an
issue of the journal Microscopy and Microanalysis\, to appear some months
after the Workshop.  All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed. Manuscrip
ts will have to be submitted using the journal’s on-line submission proced
ure.\n top\n \nEMAS Bursaries\nA number of EMAS bursaries are available to
student members of the Society. They include a free “student” registratio
n and free accommodation package for the duration of the Workshop (in a sh
ared twin room) in a hotel assigned by the Workshop. The conditions for th
e award of an EMAS bursary are as follows:\n\nthe applicant must submit an
abstract for a poster contribution\;\nthe applicant must be a student mem
ber of EMAS\;\na letter from the applicant's supervisor supporting the app
lication must accompany the application (see further).\n\nA number of EMAS
bursaries are available to technician members of the Society. They includ
e a free “student” registration and free accommodation package for the dur
ation of the Workshop (in a shared twin room) in a hotel assigned by the W
orkshop.  The conditions for the award of an EMAS bursary are as follows:

y and relevance of the work presented in the abstract are the main criteri
a on which successful applications will be judged. A maximum of 2 bursarie
s per person can be awarded.\nBursary applications must be sent to the Wor
kshop Secretariat referring to the relevant poster contribution abstract\,
reaching it before 15 February 2016. Applicants will be notified of the a
