iennial events designed to provide postgraduate-level and research workers
in materials science\, material engineering and related subjects\, with b
asic knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of electron probe X-ray
microanalysis.&nbsp\; The workshops are organized as low budget meetings
with lectures on practical and theoretical aspects of EPMA given by intern
ationally recognized experts.&nbsp\; The format and content of the meeting
s are tailored to the needs of the practical microanalyst routinely dealin
g with problems of instrumental procedures\, specimen preparation\, data c
ollection and quantification\, as well as those of research workers keen t
o obtain a deeper understanding of the physics underlying X-ray production
\, measurement and analysis.\nPast EMAS Regional Workshops were held in Fi
nland (1994)\, Hungary (1996)\, Spain (1998)\, the Czech Republic (2000)\,
Poland (2002)\, Slovenia (2004)\, Germany (2006)\, Italy (2008)\, the Net
herlands (2010)\, Italy (2012)\, and Austria (2014).\nThe core topics of t
he 12th EMAS Regional Workshop are:\n\nElectron beam - specimen interactio
 ns\nX-ray spectroscopy (WDS and EDS)\nLight element analysis\nQuantitative
  electron probe microanalysis\nAnalysis under low-vacuum conditions\nSampl
 e preparation\nElectron backscatter diffraction (EBSD)\n\nA special sessio
n entitled “Analysis of non-conducting materials” will be organized includ
ing two technical sessions dedicated to this subject.&nbsp\; Topics covere
d in these two sessions will include:Session on non-conventional methods:
\n\nAnalysis of coatings\nAnalysis in the VP-SEM\nCombination of analytica
l techniques for geological materials analysis\nComparison of µ-XRF and ED
 S\nLow-voltage analysis\n\nSession on non-conventional materials:\n\nin si
tu experiments in the VP-SEM\nSample stability in the VP-SEM\nAnalysis of
 gunshot residues\nAnalysis of transuranium elements\nAnalysis of multi-pha
 se materials\nInstrument development\n\ntop\n&nbsp\;\nScientific programme
\nThe programme will consist of invited lectures delivered by renowned exp
erts\, and two poster sessions.&nbsp\; Three round-table discussions will
also be held during the workshop.&nbsp\; The invited lectures and poster a
bstracts will be published in the Workshop Book of Tutorials and Abstracts
.&nbsp\; The official language of the workshop will be English.\nFor the c
omplete scientific programme please download the announcement of the works
hop.\ntop\n&nbsp\;\nPoster presentations\nAll participants to the workshop
are invited to make a poster presentation. Abstracts of poster contributi
ons to be presented during the workshop should fit one A4 page\; please us

nbsp\;\nProceedings\nAuthors of contributions related to the topic of the
workshop’s special session are invited to submit a manuscript for publicat
ion in an issue of the journal Microscopy and Microanalysis\, to appear so
me months after the Workshop.&nbsp\; All submitted papers will be peer-rev
iewed. Manuscripts will have to be submitted using the journal’s on-line s
ubmission procedure.\n&nbsp\;top\n&nbsp\;\nEMAS Bursaries\nA number of EMA
