MC 2017: Microscopy Conference 2017

The conference will be jointly organized by the:

-  Swiss Society for Optics and Microscopy (SSOM);

-  Austrian Society for Electron Microscopy (ASEM);

-  German Society for Electron Microscopy e. V. (DGE).

This international event is part of a series of conferences organised every four years by the three hosting microscopy societies, alternatingly taking place in one of the three countries. The microscopy conference in Lausanne is being conducted under the auspices of the European Microscopy Society (EMS) as an EMS extension event, open to contributions from anywhere around the globe.

The scientific programme features three main topical areas addressing advances in instrumentation, life sciences and materials science. Each main topic is split in seven thematic sessions covering invited and contributed talks as well as poster sessions. In addition to the core scientific programme, an industrial exhibition, a conference dinner, plenary lectures and award ceremonies in conjunction with award lectures will round off the programme.

The scientific programme will offer a variety of plenary lectures, scientific and poster sessions as well as lunchtime lectures and workshops covering the following topics:

Instrumentation and Methods (IM)

  • Advances in instrumentation and methods

  • Environmental, in-situ and time-resolved microscopy

  • Image analysis and handling of big data sets

  • Quantification and modeling

  • Spectroscopy in microscopy

  • Tomography

  • Phase-related techniques

    Life Sciences (LS)

  • Single particle EM, microscopy of membrane assemblies

  • From cells to tissues: imaging of large volumes

  • Pathogens and EM in diagnostics

  • Cellular electron tomography

  • Correlative approaches

  • Live- and in-vivo imaging

  • Developments in sample preparation

    Materials Science (MS)

  • Functional materials and semiconductors

  • Interfaces and surfaces, coatings and thin films

  • Energy-related materials

  • Metals, alloys and intermetallics

  • Carbon-based materials, soft matter and polymers

  • Nanoparticles, 2D materials, nanocomposites and catalysts

  • Ceramics, oxides and minerals

    The commercial exhibition will form an integral part of the conference and contribute to the fact that the MC 2017 will be a comprehensive source of information for anybody who is interested in microscopy.
